Ok this is weird. Oh, hello by the way! I have a MAJOR PROBLEM.
I just upgraded from XP to Win7 64Bit. I also added more memory of 8GB DDR2 PC6400/800MHz. As soon as I installed Photoshop, (I had to use my old photoshop7 program, since I misplaced my CS3 Disk) onto this new O.S.
I went into EDIT>Preferences>,Memory and Image cache, I see that the available ram is 1720 MB,and memory usage is 75%, or 1290MB.
I created a path to go to my Biggest HDD, which is 1731GB free.
I also go into Plug-ins and Scratch disks and I have in this order>
F:\ 32 GB FREE (2TB HDD)
C:\ 420 GB FREE (500GB HDD)
G:\ 32 GB FREE (74GB HDD)
Image and Memory Cache is set at "4". The Photoshop scratch has I/0 DISABLED.
My O.S.,Applications,programs are on the C:\ Boot drive, but I mostly save all my digital work to my biggest drive, but yet, after spending some time on a project, merge layers,Flattened image,and try to SAVE IT, I get this message telling me the
COULD NOT SAVE AS F:\ image3.jpg, DISK IS FULL. ....WHAT!!!
What DISK are they talking about, the SCRATCH DISK, or my HDD Disk?
When I go back to change the scratch disk order, it tells me it will make changes AFTER I restart Photoshop.
Is there any way I can still save this work NOW, without restarting Photoshop? I've tried changing the scratch disk order, and I KNOW I'M SAVING THIS PROJECT ON MY BIGGEST HDD, but why is it telling me the DISK IS FULL?
One other thing..When I jumped from 3.3GB Ram with XP Limitations, then upgraded to Win7, with another 4GB Ram,which I now have 8GB, I would think the available ram in the Pref folder would be much more than 1720MB.
Hi and the very same message appears. After I clicked on Photoshop to open, a message appeared stating "The Primary Scratch disk and some other is on the same drive, which can result in reduced performance.Recommend moving to the another physical drive"
Something like that.
But YES, I tried doing just the 'SAVE', and that also gave me the message about the scratch disk being full.

Ny understanding is that the scratch disk is used as an "extension" of memory. For some reason, you have:
"The Photoshop scratch has I/0 DISABLED."
One possibility is that it is trying to use the scratch while trying to write out a large file and is unable to, hence a message that the disk is full. That is, it may be interpreting the fact that it can't write to a disk as the disk being full.
If this problem is only happening with large files, then that's one scenario. Are you able to save a small, simple file?
I can't imagine why I/O is disabled. Perhaps others might have some suggestions.

hi ,
not sure how much i can be...
i took a quick look at compatibley and it does appear ps 7 fully compatible with 32 and 64 bit ... no exception mentioned...
now one thing that not clear to me... is the drives...
do you have 3 seperate internal hard drive or you have have one physical drive but 3 partions??? or one physical hard drive and you have 2 externals... ...it makes a difference...
now a scratch disk file all that is , it like your windows swap file... it simulates additional ram when you run out of regular ram ...
now one of the things that give me a flag... is your avail ram ps is reporting..
now you said you put in 8 gigs... however avail ram is only 1.7 gigs!!
have you checked you windows system and see if it recognizing the full 8 gigs? and are you sure your motherboard and bios setup to use 8 gigs!!!
note: the slots and bios got to be able to handle 8 gigs....

YES, I see all 8GB Ram on this computer, but someone mentioned that Photoshop 7 can not run with Windows 7 64 Bit, and the memory will not show up as the full installed memory. I have been able to 'SAVE AS' small .PSD and .JPEG files and others with many layers can not be saved. I do not think adobe supports version 7, or even CS3 or 4 at present. Went to Adobe and all I saw was CS5 ext. retails for $999.99!!!
To answer your question on the HDD's...I have three Independent all open drives. No partitions within.
F:\ 32 GB FREE (2TB HDD) ( save all Photoshop files - PSD and JPG to this drive)
C:\ 420 GB FREE (500GB HDD) (OS and all programs)
G:\ 32 GB FREE (74GB HDD) (extra temp HDD)

where I can change that.
I opened Photoshop 7, Help> System Info>
Here's what I see- O.S. shows Windows NT, but I have Windows7 /64)
Built-In memory - 0
Free memory - 0
Memory available - 1720MB
Image cache levels - 4
async I/O Disabled
Application folder - (C\)
Temp path folder - (C\)
Then I save all my work to the biggest HDD, the 2TB.
