Hi, I'm still using my old Photoshop 6 due to lack of money to upgrade. I've been trying to find custom shapes to add, but the majority of shapes I download will not load because of my version of Photoshop. I'm wondering if anyone has any links to PS 6 friendly custom shapes. It's a huge time waster to keep downloading only to find out I can't load them. 
Also is there a place I can get some textures? What I have is pretty limited too. |

hi,
A. shapes..............
generally that all one can do is just search and hope a site will tell you what version there fo,r other wise it trial and erro...
here a couple i found.... it just takes time....

B textures ....
i don't have anything bookmarked on this machine...
generally i go to bing and do a graphic search for texture and go
from there when i need them .. for me that alot easier and faster to find the one i want.. the only disadvantage is that it some time hard to tell at first if it a high quality one or not..

now i know what it is to be on a tight budget.. here a couple of idea..
1. as far as getting the latest and greatest... ps .. if you know a student or teacher they can get a big discount... about 30-40%
2. get cs 3 or 4. they should have really come down in price by now.. and should be able to get some good affordable price.... check out the various ps boards and see if some one has older version they don't need anymore, because they upgraded to a newer..
3. gimp... is very close to photoshop .. and it free .. it the best freware out there by far .. and most of the plugins for ps will work with gimp ..

Okay, thanks. Ladyoak is where I was at yesterday, I downloaded quite a few but then was only able to load a few. It would be nice if each set indicated if it would work on PS6 before you download. I'll take another look at GIMP. |

hi,
on that part... it pot luck unfortuately... in some cases where there a particular shape you need you may need just to make it your self..
ongimp.. also look at a few of the plugins...
now most ps shop plug in will work in gimp...
but there there couple special gimpplug in you might like...
for example there a seam carving/content aware plug in....
which is nice.. ps doesn't have that untill you get to cs4 or cs5 ..
it neat you can resize things without distortion ... and depending on theimage you can remove things nicely without using the clone tool ..

I don't know about earlier versinos of Photoshop, but just this morning I came across a tip that you can turn webdings (font characters) into custom shapes.
The steps (for CS5 - but maybe it's similar for other versions?) are:
- File->New to open a new document (grayscale or color, any size)
- Select the type tool and pick a font (e.g wingdings, webdings, dingbats). Size doesn't matter.
- Type a single symbol then end editing session (e.g click the tick symbol).
- Convert the type character to a shape layer (layer->type->COnvert to shape)
- Define a custom shape (edit->define custom shape). Give it a name. It will be added to the Custom Shape picker, ready to use.
I'm really sorry if this doesn't work on PS6, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Best of luck finding what you want.
