I have a photo that is old, has turned very dark and has some mold or grit or mildew on it. I scanned it into my computer and I've been able to brighten it considerably but I don't know how to get rid of the mold or grit which is obscuring one of the faces on the photo. Does anyone know if there is some sort of bath or liquid I can use on the photo to try to remove the mold or grit without harming the photo? |

Hi aldago welcome to the forum. First, do not attempt to bathe the photo or use any products on the image yourself, it's a job for a conservator and a restorer at the best of times, only a light brushing of any debris could really be advised by myself.
I would always tend to look through the channels to see if one or more contain any good info that I can use in the restoration process, it may be helpful to convert to CMYK and LAB to see if any of the channels are better than others.
A crop of the affected area would be helpful if you can post it. _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

Thanks for replying. I've attached a cropping of the face with the most deterioration. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. I will try to do what you suggested (although I'm pretty new at this) with the other channels. |

oh mate, this is Crazy!!, I wish I could help you in some way, but this photo is really really bad, I'm a professional scanner operator and I've been scanning photos and transparencies for about 16 years.. Retouching this is a pretty tuff one.. I think first try taking the photo to a Kodak center and asking them to clean it and then see how it comes out, then scan the photo again in 500 DPI and then try retouching it in Photoshop...
Hope this helped.. _________________ Add your Business and be part of a new Business Video Directory revolution : )
