CS5 adjustment layer won't show "show clipping"

When I create for example a curves adjustment layer in CS5 it opens up a "dialogue box" that isn't even a dialogue box, it's in the adjustment panel and it's smaller than the normal box, it lacks a lot of info and buttons, including the "show clipping" option which I need. If I try to apply an adjustment directly I can and the show clipping option will appear but I need layers. Is there any way to fix this?
