I just upgraded my system from XP pro to 7 Ultimate. I'd like to know if I need to install a third party internet security software like Kaspersky or should I rely on the ones in Windows 7. |

I don't really trust the firewall and antivirus functions. I still prefer to take a free antivirus such as avg to take care of the virus job. _________________ how to get my ex back | breast actives |

Not really, you could install a separate security programs and still get problems, but that's better than having none. _________________ Find Photoshop book that's most suitable for you, in Photoshop CS5 Books Reviews |

well I do trust it, just as much as I would trust any other anitvirus software.
such a big company with thousand of developers, just as good as software like AVG or any other "cheap" software.
(if you don't trust ms antivirus, then why trust windows? my girlfrind uses linux and as far as I know, has no viruses) :-) _________________ Earn money with Photoshop - Earn money as an Artist |

If your having second thoughts about windows firewall and its antivirus, by all means download a 3rd party software. |

Windows 7 comes with some antivirus protection. But for only like $20-$40 a year, buying an upgraded on doesn't hurt and is well worth it. _________________ Employee Badges and custom name tags |

hi,
what do you presently have installed as far as a anitivirus program?
because windows doesn't come with it... yes there is a free ms av program and it fairly good but there are others that better ...
bigggest heartburn with the ms secuirty essentials is that it doesn't check email ..
for security one looks at having a general strategy ....
1. firwall protection..
2. a good malware scanner that take care of virus and spyware categories...
there a couple of good free ones out there... avg and a freeware version avail and of course ms secuirty essentials it alittle limited. and a coupleof others..
3. a special host file-- these block all malware known sites there free and work very well ....
4. and something i am planning on doing is putting in a sandbox type program, possibly sandboxie it free, these kinds of programs what they do... if a malware does get thru your defenses.. it will isolate the malware where it doesn't infect the whole system , and then you can go in and get removed.. |

Thank you all for your advice. Yes I have installed a separate security sw; Kaspersky Internet Security. I thought it better to leave security to the experts. Yes Microsoft are experts but they have so many other issues on their hands, they won;t be able to update their virus defenitions like a dedicated company will. |
