Hi!

I am trying to use rectangular marquee tool but when I click on the tool and do a selection, it only gives me a vertical dashed line and then that warning pops up.

so clueless... please help me... Frown

First when ever your doing work always make a copy of it first then work on the copy and not the original Now when you select what you want with the tool go to edit and select copy or paste or whatever you can even add color inside that selected box you made

What is the warning which pops up?

Most likely you are not in the correct layer. Have a look at the layers palette and check that the layer you are selecting from is highlighted (blue). If not, just click on the correct layer.

You are selecting what you think you are, Photoshop gives a warning about selections when it judges you are below a 50% ratio. Don't panic Mr. Mannering! it should select just fine. Have you experimented?
