So I made an icon for a project in illustrator and brought it in to Photoshop. The final file has to be an 8 bit bmp using a 256 RGB color palette. The icon will be used for a TV application. I was given the RGB Color table I'm suppose to use, which is about 5 pages long but I've never had to use a custom color palette so I have no idea how I would make my icon with this palette? |

Hi good_snow, a few years back I had a few TV contracts to work on, specifically transferring graphics over to a TV Web format. I did have specific palettes to choose from, I forget the format now, but this does not seem to be a the case you face per se - I think you just need to limit yourself to a 256 colour palette. It is the equivalent of web-safe you are suffering from and indeed there are colours and combinations that don't really interlace properly on TV, however time and tide wait for no man, so I will have to look into it, unless some other kind soul rescues me (and you). No promises. _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

I needed to use the bathroom. Sorry if i offend.
When you say five pages long do you mean a text file?
You can save and load colour palettes to the swatches window.
Window > Swatches
You can also load a colour profile if the image mode is indexed colour.
Image > Mode > Colour Table |

Is it possible to post the colour table information? It may help to shed some light on your issue. _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

I'm watching this thread so that I can learn something too. Does color PROFILE come into it at all? Anyway, I made some notes when I was reading about it once (I think they are from www.deke.com), I don't know if they will just confuse the issue, but here's a few bits:
For color profile use edit->assign profile
There's also edit->convert to profile
For soft proofing: view->proof setup (then select color space from menu, which includes a custom option).
To create, use edit->color settings
... Under "more options" if lots of screen work, turn off "Use Dither"
"Color settings are a way of handling the different colors delivered by different output devices".
Oh dear, I'm sorry for the randomness of these points. I'll revisit and try to make better sense of them if you ask. |
