The key to creating this photograph is selections. Photoshop has the unique ability to perform some magical things with almost any image, The hard part is selecting the part of the image you wish to manipulate. This has always been one of the most difficult things to do for many people. Practice, practice, practice, thats my best advice.
With that, I'll say that with this image open in photoshop, it is apparent that the first selection should be the sky. How you separate the sky from the trees is up to you...there are many ways to do it. Creating an accurate selection is the key. I was able to recreate the sky almost identically using the "Curves" tool, under Image/adjustments/curves. There was nothing more needed than that.
Next obvious adjustment is the trees. Since the trees have a reflection in the water, I found the best results using "Select/color range" and a combination of the add and subtract droppers. This also gave me a great selection of foliage and reflections both. With this new selection, I was able to use "Color balance" to quickly adjust the color of the trees to a nice bright hue, as in the final picture. This did not yield perfect results and there were small and minor color variations throughout the treeline that are also evident in the final picture if you look closely, which is why I think the original artist used similar methods.
The car. Again, this only took a very general quick selection using the polygon lasso tool and adjustment using the "Curves" tool.
I see no fancy effects in this image aside from these very basic tools. Granted, the result looks nice but, as I said before, practice! Get your selections down pat and this image is a piece of cake! _________________ http://www.jmerrittphotorestoration.com/ |
