Ok I'm playing around sticking a stuffed panda's head on various people. Yes I should be doing something better with my time.
But here's the thing. I have this person whose head I want to replace with the pandas. The person is wearing a headscarf covering their head and forehead.
What I'd like to do is select their face and then drag in the panda head so that it only appears where the selected face is. In other words, it will look as if the headscarf was originally covering the panda. That way I don't have to mess around stretching/transforming the panda, blurring everything...etc.
I have the original picture and the panda layer. Do I need to make some kind of new layer out of the person's face? How so?

I'm not sure i understand what your problem is.
If you select and copy the head of the panter, paste it on a seperate layer of your person-image. At the scarfpart, some of the head of the panda needs to be removed (using the eraser tool) and i think it will go fine.
But you allready mentioned this, so i'm not sure what it is you need help on..

You're right, that is what I could do, and what I have done.
But what I'm thinking is, a more "realistic" way might be to isolate this person's face and..umm..meld the pandas face over it. In other words, when I copy of the panda layer, it won't be seen until its dragged over the person's face...eventually I position it to cover the face.
Do you understand what I'm getting at? I'm finding it hard to explain.
