I seem to have lost my file- I suppose?

I recently tried to open up a piece I had been working on, and it seems to have been corrupted, or something.
the image preview works fine! I can see everything, nothing is missing and it saved in the last state I saved it in.

However, when opened I get this-

I don't know what happened. I imagine it's corrupted, but I'm confused as to why the display picture works fine. Any information you could provide me is appreciated. I obviously did something wrong, and I just want to know WHY it happened, so hopefully I don't do it again. I understand if my image is lost, I've moved past it. Frown
