In CS4 I am trying to cut out objects using the pen tool and I am having a couple problems. After completing the selections it tells me that it " could not complete your request because the content layer is not directly editable" It's weird because I have edited the same photos before. What have I pressed or not pressed to make it do this.? Also when I am outlining an object with the pen it fills it in with black? How do i make it transparent? Sorry for the newbie questions. Just trying to learn.

Thanks a bunch.

Look at the tool options on the top bar and choose the path option, you must have the shape layer selected.
