I just created an action in PhotoshopCS4 to use in BridgeCS4 when batching over 100 photos at a time. Everything works fine except when it comes time to save the file in Photoshop. PS opens the default way to save instead of the Save For Web screen... So as a result all the files save but not with greatly reduced file sizes. What am I doing wrong?
Also, every time the action got to the save part the action would stop and wait for me to select Save or press enter. I just want a simple action that will save each file for web one after another without me having to do anything besides choose a destination and start the action.
Any help is appreciated! |

It's strange. Say if I have an original JPEG image with a file size of 1 MB. If I manually go to File > Save for Web and Devices and then reduce file quality to 80% it gives me a 397 KB file. But then if I run the batch, using the action I created while manually saving the previous image, it doesn't give me the "Save for Web" window and instead displays a "JPEG Options" window where I can set the quality to 8 and get a file size of 221 KB after it closes that window and saves...
What's the better of the two options? I want to preserve as much quality as possible while reducing the file as much as possible. That's why I'm trying to do SFW at 80, but it seems like it's just doing a normal save when I run the action and it's reducing the file to 8 quality... I would assume that 8 and 80% are the same thing, but it looks like it'd be wrong since the end file sizes are different. But then again, I would think that SFW would produce the lowest file size... |

Ah you're right, forgot it's out of 12. The pixel sizes are staying the same at 947x1434. I just took a random image I had, trying to figure out the best way to go about doing hundreds of pictures tomorrow coming straight from a high res camera. |

It seems like running the batch with the action is creating two files... One gets saved at 397 KB with the original name, and the other gets saved at 274 KB with the name I set in Bridge before running the batch. Is there a way to just have it reduce the file size and save under the new name I set up in Bridge? |

Just ran into the problem and wanted to post workaround to keeping the "Save for web" file size when batching.
1. Create an action with the "Save for Web"
2. choose "File/Automate/Batch"
3. choose your folder with images you wish to batch, now click on the "Destination" button and create a folder within the folder you choose for the Import folder"
4. Leave all checkboxes blank.
5. Batch away... Im using CS5 and what it did was save larger batched images (130 KB) into the folder I created within the import folder and replaced the images in the import folder with smaller images (8 KB)
Strange I know but it worked... Hope this helps |
