Not sure if you have any experience with the pen tool or not, but it seems that you could use it in this situation.
A lot of people are intimidated by this tool, and I was at first, but I will never regret giving it a shot. Hardly a time goes by that I don't use it when I fire up Photoshop.
I am new to the forum and not sure if there is a tutorial section here and if there is, not sure if there is a pen tool tut. I will look later and if needed I will make you an easy tutorial and you won't regret it.
If you can post the image of the car you are talking about, I will use it in the example.
