Here's a softball:

I zoomed in and selected a region with my magic wand. The region is surrounded by the flashing lines, thus sucessfully selected (I think). When I go to Image->Adjustments-> Match Color is in gray and cannot be selected.

Can anyone tell me why I cannot use match color?

Many thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forums sickel2. Match Colour command is used on separate images, to unify the tone and luminance. Make your selection and then paste into a new document, then try and Match colour.
