This might not even be a Photoshop question, but here goes. I have just opened some of my photos from earlier this year, but after Photshopping them, then trying to save them, I get the message:
"Could not save --- because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the properties command in Windows Explorer to unlock the file"
All my photos are on an external hard drive. When I move them onto my PC hard drive, they work OK. There a LOT of photos, so I don't really want to move them all. What can I do? |

Hey, Is your external HDD write protected? Also have you checked the files properties for 'read only' attribute box checked? |

Thanks for replying. I've just gone into properties on my external hard drive, then security, and clicked on "learn about access controls and permissions". Nothing is ticked - so I ticked "Write".
Then I tried to work on a photo ..... but I still get the same message when I try to save the changes. |

What model external HDD do you have?
Try opening up a different type of file on your HDD in a different application to test whether you can save over the top of other file types.
And don't forget to check the properties of the individual psd files. |
