How do you move a layer to a new Photoshop document?

I have a website PSD template with a logo I want to move to a new Photoshop document so I can change the text and export it on its own, how would I go about doing this?

File > Place

or..

Open up original template and File > Save As > choose new name

or

Drag n Drop
