Hi

I created our artwork - Text (100% black) and imported png photos and mode is CMYK color but we have decided to print the booklet pages in black and white.

Do I just need to change the mode to Greyscale before printing to PDF and sending to the printer.

Thanks
Chris

Aaargh! I think you are mistaking CMYK and Grey scale. And then again printing and etc,,,

Never try to print at 100% black or 100%white, lessen/heighten the values by at least 5-10%

First things first. It may help to learn about colour spaces and profiles in this context. There are loads of resources out there.

Also, PDF is an independent file format and why would you be printing? Unless for proofs?

In reference to your earlier question, I would Channel Mix in all likelihood (to get the B&W photo) and take it from there.

Thanks - I will follow through from here on your suggestions

I have to print to PDF because our printer told us that is the only format they accept.

Sorry my post produced an Aaarrggh.

Guidelines from my printer said to ensure all text is 100% Black or Rich Black.

I will convert photos to greyscale PNG b4 placing into Photoshop.

(So as not to confuse you I am doing two jobs one for bcards CMYK and booklet black and white.)

Cheers
Chris

I think I may have got a little confused along the way (aargh at me ;))

Hers a quick explanation of Rich Black:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_black

I had thought at first you were wanting to print a PDF file to send to your printer, I see though that you want to create a PDF to have your printer process, my mistake. To convert a PDF to grey scale whilst in Acrobat (Pro):

1. Open a colour PDF file in Acrobat Pro. The file may contain a mix of CMYK, RGB or spot colour.

2. Choose Advanced > Print Production > Preflight.

3. Click the right-pointing triangle next to PDF Fix-ups, and select the Convert to Gray scale option that appears.

4. Click the Execute button. The entire PDF file will be converted to gray scale
