I am the first to recomend doing things the best way rather than the easiest but he was looking for quick not perfect.
Sometimes you can achieve a faster result by using a plugin and then some fine tuning. When you are doing a lot of repetitive tasks it can save so much time.
It also depends on what the image is for as well. If it is for a portrait or a magazine then you want perfection but if it is for a catalog or flyer close enough can often be good enough. I have had the situation where I have spent hours on an image just for the client to go and print it on plain paper. Talk about a waste of time.

yeah , smudge works very well .. i use it for retouching my photos

Both of the filters mentioned above are pretty good for quick jobs if you must. OnOne's Photo Tools filter can be helpful too, but honestly I don't like the look that most of those filters will give you. If I do one thing by hand when it comes to large batches of photos it's the skin bit. It's a pain and it does take time, but the results are so much better that it's really noticeable. Skin tones are such an individual thing and those filters always work from certain algorithms and the results never seem quite true to me. |

I say take your time doing a manual dodge and burn, the results are incomparable to other techniques. I know that filters are time saving and convenient, but the time spent applying filters could be spent building a set of custom actions and if you're insane enough your own filters.
