Hi, and thanks for the great forums here.
I'm using Photoshop CS3 in Windows, and had this problem the entire time. In the "save as" dialog (the standard Windows one, not the special Photoshop one), when I change the file type in the drop-down list, it does not automatically change the extension on the end of the filename. I have to go and edit it myself.
This seems odd, as most other professional programs I've used change it for you when you change the dropdown file type.
Is this a bug, or a setting I need to change, or just something Photoshop doesn't do? I've always been curious, this is the first time I've asked anyone.

If you type in a new file name, (if that is what you are doing) it will not add the extension when you finish typing. But when you click save it will add it to the saved file.
Other than that thought, I'm at a loss.
Thanks hawkeye, actually I should have been clearer.. it's when I'm saving an existing file, say a JPG, as something else. It shows the original filename, but when I change the file type, the extension doesn't change, I have to change it myself.
