How do I make the background transparent?

Sounds like a silly question...and you're probably thinking I really need a few more lessons (you could be right! Big Wink

)

What I want to do is create a text with a transparent background so that it can be used with any color background with out seeing white dotty looking edges.

The text is our logo and it is in red, but if I choose to put it on a black background I get white dots all around the edge.

Can some one please help me? Big Grin

Yes, I am trying to insert the logo into Frontpage to use on a website. It looks quite ok in Photoshop, but looks really bad in frontpage.

I have now set the anti-alias on none and this has helped.

So, I think I have worked it out.

Are you saving it as a transparent gif? If the background colors aren't changing too much you may be able to apply a matte color to it. How many times are you placing the logo on a different color? It may be better to use different images with different background colors. I'm not sure how important the look of your logo is. Depending on the logo, the look may not even change that much...

I'll explain what we are doing. The logo (which is in red and must look the same as it is a registered trade mark) will be used by affiliate webmasters to promote our site. The thing is, it will be place on any color background that the affiliate chooses. We have no control over the background color, therefore, we must make sure the logo looks good before we give to them to add to their website.

You're going to have a tough time getting a trasparent gif to look good on a wide array of background colors.

If I were you, I would probably just put the logo on my own background color with maybe a black (or a dark color that matches your logo) border. Most of the affiliate links I've seen follow this format.

Check out Mozilla Firefox's affiliate buttons. They did some transparent gifs, but only on the rounded rectangle buttons. You could also do an alpha trasparent png, but browser support for alpha transparent png's is VERY limited.

SABuffy, check the recent post by me (richsong) on this topic. Member Witam fixed my logo for me and will explain how he did it. It may answer your problem as well.

But unfortunately, that works great for a graphic but not for font. I've even been to another advanced Photoshop course specifically for the web and the tutor there could not get the effect I was after either. Never mind we have decided to set certain background criteria to eliminate the problem.

You guys are great help though...I know where to come when I need advice! Big Wink
