I know this is basic, but this is my first use of CS3. I've been playing around with it since I got it for Christmas, but hadn't been motivated enough to figure anything out yet.
Well, yesterday my grandmother passed away. In my search to try to find something to do to contribute to the funeral, I remembered this picture that I took of her on Mother's Day of last year. I touched it up here and there... let me know what you think and if there is anything else that you would do. The only left that bugs me is the glare on her glasses, but I can't figure out how to fix that without it looking fake.

I don't know what your intention was with the edit but it appears to me that you went a bit too far with it. The detail has been lost in the jacket, her face is red and the blouse is almost florescent. I appears that you upped the contrast too much.
I used a curves adjustment to add a little more contrast and cropped the image slightly. I also darkened the outside edges of the picture just slightly draw the eye away from the background.

The glasses reflection can be fixed, but it's not something that a beginner would be able to accomplish. I also whitened her teeth a little.
By the way, I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

diffuse glow adds a more dramatic effect to the photo, which in fact, you did!
