I'm new to Photoshop. So new in fact, that I am only running PSE 4. I have a problem, maybe someone can help. When I sharpen and save an image, I have a very large file size which is above 200kb, that is large for me. When saving the file, using "Save as," I try to lower the file size to around medium or sometimes less, no more than 140kb. After having done so, the image quality goes down hill. Sharpening is lost and any text that I may have applied to the image is blurred. This usually happens with senic shots, I am a macro shooter at heart but sometimes I take a pretty landscape or two. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You just don't have enough pixels to work with. You can't squeeze blood out of a turnip. My raw files are 38 M, ps 169M, jpgs to print 8 to 22 Megs, little ones for the web are still 2 to 5 meg. That's a little higher than it takes to get good images, but not by much, and not at all if you intend to make large prints.
200kb is not a large file size. The sizes quoted by the other poster are large file sizes. A 200kb image file will be of low quality, if you want high quality you need to keep the original file and use lossless saving. Reducing it to 140kb will only make the problem worse.

What everyone else said.
My final edited JPEGs are between 2-5MB, PSDs are usually close to 200MB, and RAW files are 10-12MB. It's just something you have to deal with. Sorry. _________________ Photoshop Post Processing Tutorials - Glamour retouching, Photoshop features, image enhancement, and more. All FREE.
