Is File Attachment a crucial feature do you think?
I can install a hack that will install file attachment on the forums. It does it better than vB (at SP) as far as I am concerned.
The one problem is that it is a very complex hack.  But, we can do it.
Also, another option is a photo/image Gallery. Like this:

I'd say it's fairly crucial, as long as you have the space to host the images. I love being attach images instead of loading them onto my own server. It's so much faster.
I also think that the gallery would be great for a forum like this one.

Ok, cool.
Recommended uses of the gallery? (As well as possible galleries to begin with)? And what a gallery offers to the site that file attachment doesn't?

I think you should allow files, but possibly only JPG and GIF attachments. Can't you limit the file size as well? You could limit the file size or dimensions allowed to minimize the overhead it would create.
I think it's important though because not everyone will be able to afford one of those paid image hosting services and they're a pain to sign up with.
With these forums being about photoshop (images) I think its a really important issue.

Is there going to be a forum where people "show off" their work, I think we should integrate the gallery script into that somehow (don't ask me  ) so it displays a few of the latest postings on the front page? eh? |
