I'm not an expert on PS, and I'm only 16, but I want to get better and would appreciate some feedback. It's my first complete space setting done from scratch.

shorty my friend, if you're indeed a rookie and only 16 .... you are well on your way. I LOVE IT!

I think it looks awesome!

Now only because I'm an old Sci Fi fart/freak .... the only thing I see that isn't quite right are your 'rings'. Rather than 'rings' as on Saturn, you have a swirl as if to show a spinning motion. I didn't detect it at first, but you were asking for feedback so I took a closer look. Other than that little dealio .... I think it's awesome and if you saved it in layers, it should be but a minor rework to get it EXACTLY right.

Nice work shorty, nice work!

Thanks! The rings were awkward to place in the picture to start with anyways, but I needed a little more to add before I was satisfied with it. Without the rings, it seemed kind of empty. I'll work on finding a different method though.

Great idea, but not very realistic due to the lighting. If the quasar light source was coming from behind the planet, how is it that the front of the planet is so equally and consistently illuminated? Especially when you have another major light source coming from the bottom right corner, how is it that the darkest part of the planet appears there? Your edges around the planet also need some work as they look as if anti-aliasing has not been applied, resulting in those jagged white edges.

The planet is nice, the rest of the image is rather reasonable. I'd fix up the suns/random glowing lights so that they look more feasible.

All-in-all it's a good start.
