For rounded selections, use the Elliptical tool, then goto Select, Transform Selection, and mold it to your liking. As far as making the shadows and highlights in the cap, use an appropriate brush and size with the burn and dodge tools. Also play around with the Exposure to get it to the correct setting. |

ok here is a better version i did, all on one layer, first with the marquee tool top, with a gradient, then with the pen tool for bottom, carefully outlining the bottom circle again. i did add strokes, and fill, and burn and dodge tool for the pen area. then another elipse for the ad on it, with gradient, pen tool curve with text along it, and perspective text using text-rotate, then layer type convert to shape, edit transform perspective, then layer rasterize shape. and i wash finished. i did have to blur the edge of the pen tool and the circle top since i wasnt great with the pen tool . here are the better results. derek

It's looking better indeed. Best advice I can give is to keep practicing with all of the tools you've been using. It really comes down to a science with using those tools. If you search for some digital painting tutorials or even find some speed painting videos, you can see the potential of the burn, dodge, and paint brush tools. That tutorial is not exactly the easiest to follow, it has too many holes in it. The pen tool especially takes a lot of practice. Remember to use multiple layers, one can never have too many. Makes things easier when having to reselect specific items, such as the needed to create the shadow/3d effect on the top of the bottle cap separate from the base. |
