Hi again, Derek. I think the problem here is too much feathering. If the feathering is too big for the size of the selction you will just run out of pixels, and this is the usual reason for this error message. Try using a smaller feather size ie.reduce the number of pixels when you feather the selction and I think it will work.

Also, just because you get that warning doesn't mean no pixels are selected. Just that you cant see what is selected. Do the selection like they say. Click ok on the warning and delete (I think that is what the tutorial has you do after making the selection). See what happens. Maybe nothing. Maybe you get the result you want.

thank you. ok after much experiment i finally found the answer to getting feathered "pointed" lines. you have to merge down your layers, select the oval marquee tool.,make the feather a max of 7 pixels or you get an error, put marquee at end of line, press delete, and you have a pointed "feathered " line end. derek

another way to "taper" the line is to do it similar to this

Click on the paths tab on the layer pallet

select new path

select your pen tool

draw a straight line

select your brush tool

select appropriate brush size

reselect the pen tool

right click

select stroke path

select brush

check simulate pressure

click ok

you should have the desired effect
play around with it and u can make curves that do the same thing.
