Hi all, total Photoshop n00b here (although I've been using Paint Shop Pro 7 for years... guess it's finally time to take off the traing wheels...).
Anyway, my question relates to this subject of using the Pen Tool to make a selection, and then expands to how to run an ACTION on just that selection. What I’m trying to do:
2) I want to run an action on this that will make it look LIKE THIS. This effect requires a new layer to be made and edited with a filter, then have that edited layer blended in with the "Multiply" blend mode prior to flattening. This gives the “comic book” effect shown.
3) The issue is that if I run these action on this image with the text box in it, the filter process un-antialiases the text making it look grungy. The second image linked was made in Paint Shop Pro by filtering the main image WITHOUT THE TEXT in Photoshop. and then adding the text box AFTERWARDS (In know I can do it all in Photoshop, but I'm still learning and I know how to do text in PSP). The trick is, however, that I have a bunch of these with the text already added that I want to go back through, so I can't do that with existing imaged wit text already flattened in.
My question specifically is:
I know how I can use the Pen tool to trace a path around the text box, and then how to convert that path into a Selection and then to Invert that selection so that everything BUT the box is selected. The challenge comes from the fact that when I run the action (which Duplicates the layer then starts applying filters), the text box is STILL EDITED, even though it is not in the Selection.
Is there a way to run the Action JUST on the selected area, given that a Duplicate Layer is created in the first step of the Action?
Nevermind... After playing with the app, I'm SURE that it's the "Duplicate Layer" step that's messing me up, since it duplicates the ENTIRE LAYER and then merges it on top of my Selected layer beneath. The best solution I can come up with is to Select the text box, copy it to the clip board, run the filter then paste it back on top of the edited layer afterwards.
