Hello!
I have been using an old version of PS (5.5) for the past year, to layout my designs for my stationery goods, and keep having a problem which I cannot figure out. I would appreciate any help!
A very pale pink box keeps showing up when I print my layouts. The only parts that stay without color (as they should be) are outside the printer's margins.
Just today, I discovered that this does not happen when printing greyscale. And here enters my other question...in a card layout, I found that the TIFF image (from a scan of an antique engraving) prints poorly, with a sort-of checkerboard effect, when the layout is in greyscale. When I change the mode to CMYK, the TIFF prints beautifully, but I get the pink box.
Thank you for any guidance you can give me...and if it helps to know, I only know a bit about using Photoshop. So far, just what I need to layout my designs, clean them up a bit and add some color. All learned with trial and error and alot of tribulation!

Can you email me your tiff in CMYK? I want to see if the same problem occurs in Photoshop CS.

like me to send along to you? My layout flattened is still 9MB and so large to send.....should
I make it smaller?

Oh ok. Well size it down to a file that's like 1 MB. Keep it in CMYK and make sure it's either a layered TIFF or a PSD. Then try and print it. If you still get the pink box, email me the file. Is the document supposed to be B&W or CMYK?
Things you may want to try:
- Turn off all color management.
- Try saving it as a jpeg or gif. Close the file. Open it again, and try printing.
- Try printing it from a different program. MS Paint can open gifs, tiffs, jpegs, and pngs. If this works we will know it's a setting in your dinosaur copy of photoshop

Just wanted to let you know that I will be pursuing these ideas when I get back from doing a show....no time to fiddle with PS today. I will just have to postpone the layout I was working on.

Dear Bryan,
Just wanted to say that I still haven't had a chance to try all of the suggestions you gave...but the mention of color management led me to the preferences part for that and I went through a color managament "wizard" and adjusted some settings...just picking what made sense to me with my very limited knowledge. The layouts in PS are printing much better already...the pink box is still there, but is much more faint.
So I shall keep adjusting settings when I can, until I get rid of the pink entirely.
