Is there a way to select an area (via lasso or line tool) are fill that area with a non-solid?

Here is my situation. I am looking to do some work for my brother-in-law, an architect. Mainly, I'll be creating computer renditions of their hand-drawn footing and wall plans. Here are some examples from the net:

http://www.reddiform.com/cad_details.htm

http://www.ntitraining.net/blueprint-reading.asp

http://www.teploma.com.ua/explflooreng.html

http://tshrembac2.blogspot.com/2007/09/progress-details.html

Is it possible to draw create the outlines of these, and instead of manually putting every cross-hatch or dots, to select a certain fill and use the paint-bucket to fill the area with the cross-hatch?

Kind of like merging a brush with the paint bucket.

I know it's possible to do this in Corel Draw, as he has used that program before, but I do not have a copy, and also, I really would rather not have to learn a whole new program if this one can do that.

OR

Perhaps there is a brush set that I can find that already has blueprint/architectual hashes so that I can put the hashes on layers and simple and cut to fit. That would be awesome as well.

I have searched for them, but my searches have come up empty as I am not really sure what keywords to use. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be a great help.

Thanks in advance.

If I'm not mistaken, what you have to do is Create a Pattern (this would be the keywords you would use for searching)

after you've done that it is just a simple fill using the pattern.

If you need more help creating your patterns, let me know and I'll do what I can to help you.

Try this page and see if this helps at all

Thanks!

I found the drop-down menu on the Paint Bucket toolbar (Foreground / Pattern), that I had missed. I had seen it before, but had forgotten where it was.

Now to find the patterns!

It might be that you'll have to create the patterns yourself ..... not as hard as it sounds and then save them as needed and then you'll be all set

or maybe you can find them here

Thanks, Moondog.

After my last post, I searched and found those same links.

I'll keep looking. My brother-in-law upgraded from AutoDesk to ArchiCad and he told me I could use his old AutoDesk, but I know nothing of it.

Do you know if Photoshop can use the same patterns that are installed on AutoDesk?

If not, then I'll just have him export a high-res image of all of the pattern fills and import them one by one into Photoshop. Or maybe Illustrator would be better.

Hrmm. Something to think on.

Glad I could help .... not sure about the patterns from AutoDesk working in Photoshop, my guess would be no. Different companies tend to NOT make things easy for crosswork.

Making your own won't be that hard once you have the various patterns from your brother.

Not a big Illustrator fan ... so can't make a determination either way.
