Hi
Iam trying to use the magic wand tool to seperate a person from the background, so at the end i will be able to cut just the persons figure not the background. iam not having sucesss with this magic wand tool, when i select the edges of the figure following the * key, the slection spreads out. Is there anything im doing worng or any other option.

yeah heaps of options;
ok first of you might be able to do it with the magic wand tool by altering the 'tolerence' of it this tells the wand how much to tolerate, play around with it and you'll get the point,
also you could use the lasso tool to cut the person out or the pen tool. if you still can't do it post the pic and I'll recommend something if you want

I would either go with the Magnetic Lasso tool or use the method described in page posted by TiDaL
