Hi

In the last 6 months I saw a mag article that detailed how to add noise to a photo using a second layer. I had great intentions of reading the article and adding the technique to my arsnel but....

.... life intervened and I cannot find the article.

I would really appreciate some pointer or advice on how to do this using a layer

I have not seen the tutorial/article you mention, but for noise to be on a seperate layer it would have to contain some information. In other words, noise cant be applied to a blank layer.

So the options left are to fill the layer with black or white (you could apply any colour but for your purposed B&W are the only realistic options).

Fill the blank layer with white and then add your noise to the desired result, set the blend mode of the layer to Screen. If you filled the blank layer with black then add a multiply blend mode.
