.BMP Files not recognised in Photoshop CS2

Hello!

Photoshop CS2 (mac) has suddenly decided it does not recognise .bmp files - cannot open or save them - both options greyed out or 'file not recognised' and in moving house I've lost the installation disc.

Can anyone suggest what might be going on? I believe all the plug ins are there (which has been an issue before with 'save for web')
