How do I select an object in the middle of the picture???

Say you have a picture! You want to to copy somthing that is in the middle of it! How do you do it???

I know you could use the wand, and hold Shift + click, but sometimes the object has so much detail you miss some! You hit Q to see what you have, and there is a little bit missing!

Does anyone know how? Or any ideas?

Hold CTRL and click the layer you want to select. This will select everything that's on the layer perfectly everytie. I use it all the time. It will even capture gradients and fades. Very cool and useful feature. Is that what you were looking for?

Well not really! I posted a picture for an example! How would I be able to cut the image from the center of the picture without getting the background of the image? I could use the wand, but that is a big PITA if you want to copy somthing with alot of detail!

Say I had a scenery, and I wanted to add anything to it as a layer, and I wanted to get just the image! I guess I could make the background of the image I want as a layer white, but Is there any way to copyjust a thing from a full picture?

You have to cut it out manually. You can do this by using the pen tool, selection tools, and/or quickmask. In this case I would go with the pen tool and then make a selection from path after that. Did this in a couple mins:

When Using the pen tool how do you do it? Do you try to erase all of the background? When using the pen tool I suround the object, and it fills it in! Covering the object I selected!

Also Where is the QuickMask feature?

The upper right highlight can best be set to union (in most cases) you might wanna experiment with the other if you don't know what they do.

for quickmask you can also press q.

I would like to do the same thing as Mark. Take something from one photo and insert it into another. Example: I want to take a B&W photo and place an American flag in it. But I want the flag to be in color. Im still not understanding how to do this. I use Elements 2

Erm as far as I know most users on this forum use photoshop. In photoshop you have to change your color mode to RGB and you probably can do this with Elements 2 as well. Here is a pic to show you what I mean:

I think he is referring more to the context sensitive toolbar at the top of the screen.

Select the Pen Tool and then cast your eyes towards the aforementioned bar. To the right of the Pen icon are 3 other icons, Shape Layers, Paths and Fill Pixels. Choose Paths, its sounds like you have either of the latter 2 on at the moment.
