Hi all,

I'm trying to insert a special character such as the tilde above the "o" in Espanol how can I acomplish this in photoshop. I know that I can choose insert>symbol in MS word but I don't know how to do it in Photoshop. Any help is greatly appreciated. Bawling

I use alt codes. An alt code allows you to insert a special character. For example if I wanted the o with the tilde I would hold down alt and press 0213. Note: You have to use the number pad off to the right of your keyboard and make sure numlock is on.

ALT + 0213 = Õ

These codes will work in pretty much everything. (instant messages, online forms, photoshop) Be aware that many fonts do not support all the special character, so if you put one into photoshop and it's just a blank space, the font your using probably doesn't support it.

You can also copy the special character you want from word and paste it into photoshop, but I think the alt code thing is way easier.

There are tons of web sites out there with alt code listings. You can search google if you don't like the one I listed. A listing of many of the alt codes can be found here: http://www.coloryourprofyle.com/phade/alt.html

Hope that helped!

this is probably a slow way of doing it but have you tried typing what you want in word with all the characters you want etc, and then copying it into photoshop?
let me know cos it's an interesting question

Actually, you have a list of all the alt codes in your own computer. Did I say in your own computer? Nod Yes, I did! It's a program called Character Map. It should be in you Start > Accesories > System Tools > Character Map.

lol wow. Well I'm glad that worked out for you. Note that not all fonts are going to have those special characters. Only the fonts where the author had enough time, dedication and nerves will have the weird characters.

Awesome!
I just learned something new!

I've used the character map many times, but never noticed it showed the alt character code in the status bar. Thanks ;)

You just saved me from googling each time I forget a code lol..
