Using Photoshop CS,

I am looking for a better way to recolor images. Objects with gradient color changes (like automobile finishes), are the most challenging.

I have figured out a way to recolor these types, but I can't change a car from light color to a very dark color without losing or destroying lighting effect on 'paint'. I currently recolor by using the pen tool to select the target area, using paint bucket to fill, and set blending mode to color. However, when I attempt various settings in Image, Adjustments (such as color balance, and hue/saturate, I am unable to get a deep color. Please assist.

I would tend to use adjustment layers.

Replace colour, Hue/Sat, channel mixer etc..

There are tutorials out there to guide you, I have seen some on general PS sites, but you would do better to search the niche market of - Photochopping - the art of altering and 'modding' pictures of cars.
