I have a black and white .gif illustration I want to include (paste) in a PowerPoint presentation. I am using Photoshop CS2 and want to take the black "sketch" on white "paper", make it white with a transparent background that I superimpose on the presentation. What's are the quickest, easiest steps?

You could open the image turn to RGB mode. Duplicate the layer. Turn off the background layer. Then use the invert adjustment tool to invert the black line on white to white line on black on the second layer. then magic wand the black background then delete. Turn off the background (lower) layer.
Once you have the white line illustration use "save for web" option.
I think powerpoint supports PNG files, they are cleaner and support transparency nicely.
