Hi,

I've just acquired an image of an ancient book and I would like to place text on it but have it look like old worn ink, to match the ancient look of the book. How would I go about doing this in Photoshop? I can't find any decent tutorials.

Well I don't have a sample of the actual writing but this is the (a small part of the book) book I want the writing to go on. The writing needs to go on the label part. I want the writing to look like it has been there for a long time. So that it looks old and worn, faded etc. I'm guessing the quality of the writing/ink needs to marry up with the texture of the label/book. How would I go about doing that?

Again without seeing the look you are after its a shot in the dark.
I simply added the text (I took the text color from the darker binding)
typed in the text then lowered the opacity.

I know how to do that but it's got to be old and worn/faded, like the writing is hundreds of years old. Can you imagine what ink writing looks like when it's hundreds of years old?

I've got a "100 year old worn/fade Ink look" plugin somewhere..
A sample you go a long way.

I was Kidding it would be nice if it was that easy....but there are filters that give a machine wash fade/worn look...

http://misterretro.com/image_filters.html

or some of the AlienSkin Eyecandy textures might help if you know the look you want.

Good luck.

Thanks. I'm going to see if there's a download version since I don't live in the US, and it would cost too much to ship to the UK.
