I like to have images in 300 dpi resolution. I notice that, if I specify a certain size image, say, 11 x 14 at 180 dpi, it prints out a different size than 300 dpi although the length and width are showing up the same .... 11 x 14. What am I doing wrong? I've never really understood the correlation between dpi and resolution. Anything that I could possibly read to clarify that would be appreciated.
thanks. |

Hi,
Your images should both be at the same physical print size irrespective of the resoultion you choose. Are the dimensions in the same units (cm, inches etc)? Is the resolution units the same (pixels/inch or pixels/cm)?
Try setting the rulers to inches and, with the hand tool selected, right click in each image and pick print size. The ruler dimensions should show the same.
There is a good explaination of resolution here that may clarify things for you. _________________ ATB

Checked out the article on resolution but it doesn't really cover resolution for photoshop. When I open an image in photoshop from my DSLR, should I change the resolution to 300dpi rather than the standard 72dpi? Will this change anything? Is there a way of changing the default resolution on photoshop? Thanks! |
