How do I tame gifs, when i increase canvas its always transparent. The background layer is always locked. Can i convert to jpg ?

Hi

It seems to be with all gif images i try to open in photoshop. they seemed to be locked in layers palet with padlock. if i increase the canvas size for a gif it is always tranparent and wont let me add colour to canvas.

this isnt a problem but this is just what photoshop does. a .gif is immediately placed in Color Mode called Indexed Colors. What you want to do is go to Image > Mode > RGB Color or CMYK Color and then your layer will be unlocked and you can add your layers or your fill or canvas size, etc. hope that helps you out.
