Make sure your rulers are on. If not, press CTRL+R.
With the move tool is selected, click on the space where the ruler is and drag down or across, depending on if you clicked on the horizontal ruler or the vertical ruler. Drag it to the edge of your shape and then do this again for the other three sides.
If your shape is circular, select the elliptical marquee tool and if your shape is a rectangle, select the rectangular marquee tool. Depending on which marquee tool you selected, start at one corner of the blue box you have created and drag it down to the corner diagonal from it.
Press SHIFT+CTRL+I to invert your selection, then press Delete.
You've now removed the everything surrounding your shape! |

When I make a choice of the area and go to Select, I do not have a option of inverting the area, only option available is color range.
Where am I going wrong? _________________ Canon 5D Canon 10D

Make sure your selection is active (marching ants)
Click one of the selcetion or Lasso tools, then click/ hold/ drag the mouse..you will see marching ants, now you can go to the SELECT/INVERSE.
Hope it helped.
