Hello!
I'm fairly new to Photoshop. I'm trying to blend images for a banner.
Can someone explain how I can do this? I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, so could someone give me the steps to this slooooowly?

Thanks to all,
rockinrick

Hi rockinrichk
A good place to start is by searching this forum..
Try searching blending images or masking, or gradient masks..
It should give you a nice start.

Thanks Lasa for the reply!
I did a search before I posted and got a lot of results that did not
match my question.

I'd like to blend 3-4 pictures for a banner. If you could point me to
a tutorial, I'd appreceate it!

Thanks again,
Rick

Hi RockinRick

I am not 100% sure on what you mean by blending the 4 images. But...

You could try using the lasso or the marquee tool, select round your images and add a feather, 10/20px maybe? If you do that the outside edges of all the images will gradually fade out and into one-another.

You could also try putting all 4 images in position, at full opacity on different layers, then use the eraser tool with a lower opacity and flow setting, and gradually go through the layers rubbing out the edges.

Hope this helps.

Or you could use blending layers like screen, difference and multipy to blend your images together then use the layer masks to take out what you do not want to be blended in as much or at all.

Thanks to all who provided links and step by step examples.
I've included an example of what I'd like to acheive. I'm not
sure quite sure how to do a number of functions in P.S.
(such as copy a layer).

As I said earlier, I'm not too bright, but I'm sure I can do
this with clear step by step instructions. I'm going to discard
the color, change to a grayscale then fill with a red opacity.
(the background color of the banner I'm using.

The pictures will also have an opacity of about 40 for the
banner background to show through. I know what I want,
I just don't know how to do it....yet!

I'm sure this is easy for most of you, but the frustration
factor is growing! LOL.

Thanks again to all for your patience,
Rick

If you do not want to use masks you can always use erasers set at different opacities.
You attached picture can be done using only the eraser.
Make a blue backgound that fits all three pictures side by side. add the pictures don't worry if you over lap..
Grab the eraser tool and set to a very low opacity 2-15 and start erasing the edges of the photos.
The below picture will start to show thru along with the blue background..it will all start to blend.
In this case the blue background simplifies the transition.

The reason people use masks and gradient mask is to be able to correct them or change them later..using the eraser methoed leaves you working without a net, but then again its easy.
Give it a run,
It's not hard it just take practise.

Here's a better example of what I'm trying to acheive. I've set to grayscale three pictures (banner_example). I'm going to set the opacity to about 40% to let the main banner background show through.

I just want to blend the edges of the three photos so the "merge" together. I hope I'm explaining this clearly.

Many Thanks,
Rick
