I would GREATLY appreciate if someone could graciously give me some ideas on this matter. It is somewhat embarrassing because I've been working with Photoshop for roughly 7 years and I still can't get it right.
Anyways, onto my issue. I have a photo of my girlfriend's grandparents that she requested I remove them from the old background and put them into a new one. No problem. Done. BUT I am having serious issues getting the image of them and the background to mesh in color and lighting. Basically it looks like a photo that someone has edited.
Attached is the original photo and the edited one.
I'm getting very tired of looking at this thing so if someone has any suggestions it would make my day! lol thanks

Have you tried color correcting the Grandparents image on there own separte layer in B&W by using the channels and levals and or curves?
Do you know how to do that with Photoshop 7.0 and beyond? If you do not know how to do that, let me know. I will check back here within a day or so.

I have played around quite a bit using different color correction tutorials I've found on the net and I've tweaked each one differently to match the photo I'm using (because obviously the settings will be different for almost every image that is used) but for some reason I can't get it quite right. I can see what the problem is, the trouble for me is pin-pointing the exact solution to get the desired end result I need.
What I'm seeing is that the colors of the background objects (leaves, fencing, are lit by brighter and more natural lighting and the her grandparents have a dull indoor lighting not to mention the camera used was obviously not of the best quality.

oh... and yes, there are several different layers, including the grandparents. I did a lot of retouch to them even before I removed them from the original picture also.

Looks pretty good to me...
It might help to un-focus the background a bit to give it some depth.

Yes... I've tried blurring the background a little and that only makes it worse.
The bottom photo is the original scaled down.
Some of the issue is the lighting direction. If you look to the top left of Grandpa's head, notice the leaf casting it's shadow on the fence. It's a fairly steep angle as if the sun is almost at it's mid-day position and a little in front of them. I've messed around with different lighting effects but due to the layer of the grandparents not being actual 3D it doesn't cast the shadowing correctly, say... from his head onto her shoulder or his.
