I've seen this topic on here before. If I choose the type tool, it's just a flat line. I've chosen a black or dark color on a white surface and I've messed around with the size of the type.

What am I doing wrong?
thanks.

I'm not quite sure exactly what you are talking about.. If you are trying to insert text using photoshop, you just click once and don't drag, you can drag but I haven't found any use for that. If you could provide a screenshot or series of screenshots I can try to help out some more.... I doubt that was the problem though.

I have run into this problem as well and could never figure out a solution. It may have to do with the particular font and the font size being used.
When I had the problem, what got me is that the first few letters of the text would show up and the boundary box would be there, but the majority of the text would not be visible.
