Hi,

I have square 110x84 jpg pics and I want to make them look more professional. How do I round the edges on a jpg or can you suggest a good professional way to edit standard sqaure pics.

Thank you!

.Jpeg does not support transparency, so if you're wanting to put hese images on a web site, you'd have to have the rounded edge the same colour as the background of the page in order to look good. Or you can use .gif transpaency. Either, way, the best way to do it is somewhat like this

-grab the rounded rectangel tool, right under the text tool on that flyout.

-in the top bar, you'll see a prompt for 'radius", enter the desired size of the rounded corner.

-carefully draw ou the rectangle so it matches perfectly around the edge of the image. On such a smal image htis works best, if you had a large image, there are better ways.

-click "load path as selection" on the paths palete.

-inverse the selection

-either delete, if you've got a trnaparent .gif, or fill with the desired colour if it's a .jpeg.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I was able to place the retagel tool on the image, choose to rund edges and drag it over the jpg covering the entire pic. when i click it blacks out the selected area. I can not find the -click "load path as selection" on the paths palete after I have done this step. am i doing the right thing so far and can you tell me where the load path as selection option is?

Thank you!

it sounds like you're doing everything right so far, except you don't want it to turn black. You'll notice at the top left of photoshop there are three buttons, whoch toggle between "filled shapes", "paths", and something else. I'm not in front of my PC right now so I can't really say, but try changing this option if it always turns black. You want it to just look like a rectangular path.

Okay, so when you've got the path drawn you shoudl go to "view" and choose "paths". Now the paths palette will be visible. it's just like the layers palette, except that instead of showing al the layers yo've got it shows all your paths. The "load as path" button is at the bottom of this palette.

I think that an easier way of creating rounded edges would be using the rectangular marquee tool.
1- create a square or rectangle in the inside of the image using the rectantangular marquee tool.
2.- go to select->modify->smooth.
3.- put in about 5-10 pixels
4.- making sure you have a transparent layer underneath your image, select inverse, and cut (delete or ctrl x) the border, leaving behind rounded corners.
If you don't want a white background on the image, save it a .gif, if you save it as a .jpg, you will have this.
