I am doing a little "test" for a company that I am interested in working at and the task they have me doing is confusing the crap out of me.

1.
Use the provided file, anim_swingDone.psd
This file has a a 5 frame animation sequence of a child swinging a hammer at a ring the bell game at a fair. This sequence is to be cut up and formatted in an 8-bit .bmp sequence with a transparent color in the first index of the palette, and a 32bit .png sequence with transparency. ANIM_swing05.bmp, ANIM_swing05.png provided as examples. Also, provide the x, y coordinates for each frame within the background

Now, I am not having troubles with the PNG part of the exercise. Basically what's messin me up is that the file they sent me (ANIM_swing05.bmp) when previewed in an explorer window has a black background and is 32bits according to the file properties. When I open these files in Photoshop 7.0, they have a pink background.

My files all seem to be getting a pink background, and stay at 8bits. I know 32 bits include an alpha channel. Basically, I'm curious how they are getting this result.

After I index my picture, then go into the color table and make the pink colour I use for my background transparent, it just shows up with a pink background in my explorer window. I'm pretty sure this is because of the 8bit picture.

I am using Photoshop 7.0, and can't seem to figure this out. I've been working on it for over 10 hours now... and it keeps tripping me up.

Any input would be appreciated.
I'd attach their file and my file, but it appears that .bmp formats are not accepted as attachments.

If you need to see the files post and I will send copies of them.
Thank you.

Okay.. let's try this another way.

Is there a way to save a .BMP file in Photoshop 7.0 or CS2 in index mode is a 32-bit file?

Even if it's a 3rd party plugin or something, I just need to know.
I've already spent a good 12 hours trying to figure this out and haven't been very sucessful.
