i downloaded a font and saved it to my desktop, but i cant figure out how to open it up and use it, any help would be greatly appreciated

the easiest way is to open it and minimize it..Leave it minimized and it will show up as an installed font in word, PS, email, what ever you type..
When you're done, close it..It will be gone from your fonts until you need it again..That's the way I do it..
