I was wondering if it's possible to remove a photoshop effect someone else put on a picture. For instance, completely blacking over a part or whiting out a section. Is the image behind the cover gone or can it be recovered?

It depends on what you mean by 'picture'. If the image has already been exported (it's a gif, png, bmp etc.) then the original pixels behind the white-out have been overwritten and you cannot recover what was beneath the white-out. However, if you're talking about Photoshop documents, which can be previewed with Nero PhotoSnap Viewer or other software, well ... you still have a chance. Open the image up in Photoshop and check to see if the white-out is in a separate layer from the picture. If yes, then simply delete the white-out layer and you're done.

However, I have a feeling you're talking about an image file, so sorry, you probably can't recover the background. Check the file extension and see if it's a .psd file. If its not, or there are no separate layers in the .psd, then you're still not completely out of luck.

If its something like the floor or on the wall, or a small smudge somebody put on the picture, you can post the pic here and people will probably be glad to help you fix it up. However, if its a face that's been whited-out, then you can't really change it, unless you take another picture of the guy, and ask people here to super-impose the face of that guy on top of the photo and make it look realistic. There are many possibilities.

If you explain your problem in greater detail, perhaps you'll get more replies.

Hope I helped!
