when i try to put the cursor over the record button i get the universal no-no symbol: a circle with a diagonal line from upper left to lower right.

Did you buy your Photoshop from a "REAL LIFE LEGIT" store, or did you download it from somewhere on the web, or is your version a free trial version of Photoshop? The last two I can see why you are having problems with, but the first one I can not???

also, i used to be able to use actions easily. no problems. made new actions, used them singly and in batch. this is probably because i have set something wrong. thanks for your reply, though. boyd

Try this first, open a pic (jpeg) make a duplicate (to keep the original safe) open the actions palette and try running one of the default actions. If that works then there probably someting in the action your trying to record, if that doesn't work, and your trying on a simple jpeg, then somethigs wrong somewhere, it might be worth resetting preferences then. As PS starts to open hold down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT. Wayne
