The two pics above contain some outrageously ripped men. Take note of the veins sticking out of them. In the first link, if you look down below his abs, you'll see two snake-like veins (or whatever they are) sticking out of him. In the second one, well ... he's just covered in veins. My question is, how would I create a vein effect like this on someone who's not ripped, but maybe someone I want to make ripped using Photoshop?

Truth is, I actually DON'T want to make someone ripped, but I need a similar vein effect. I want to put these type of 'veins' on someone's face lol. Hard to explain...

Basically, how would I create such an effect in Photoshop? Hope someone can help!

Thanks,
Dalal

My first thought would be to make a greyscale image which just has a bunch of rounded-looking lines all over it, like veins might be,a nd then apply it to the face using texturizer.

The veiny texture is probably best done by drawing lines with the pen tool, and stroking them with a very soft brush.

I'm not sure of your skill level, so if any or all of this needs more detail, just ask.

Also, just the other day I found this tutorial:

And from the looks of it, it may even be easier/beter than my aboce suggested idea.

hope it helps

I thought of a different approach to GP (although his idea shoud be good) I thought of using the lasso tool to draw some lines, then copy and paste them, and add a layer style like bevel/emboss, you need to play around with the settings, but it might work. Wayne

Thanks for the replies!

Gallo_Pinto, yeah, I'm sort of a beginner, but if you describe in a little bit more detail I should be able to understand. Sounds like a good idea though. Thanks! And I'll also take a look at that guide. Looks cool...

swanseamale47, I had thought of something like that too. I thought about making a layer with Bevel-Emboss enabled, and then using History Brush to draw the veins on that layer. I'll play around with the idea and see how it looks! Thanks!

um, regarding smanseamale's idea, he forhot to mention turning the layer's fill down to zero.

Umm...
The pen tool is in the left hand columns of tools, third up from the bottom. it works by clicking and draggin to create a node with a bexier, or just clicking to vreate a node without a bezier. Your next node will connect to you first node, etc... It soudns complex, but if you practice a bit, you'll get the hang of it fast.
After you've made a line with the pen tool, you can make adjustments with the direct selection tool, above the pen tool on a fly-out.

To stroke the lien you drew, go to the paths palette and there's a button at the bottom that says stroke brush with path. Select an appropriate size of brush and turn hardness all the way down. With the brush tool still selected click that stroke button.

if the path palette isn't alradey open, go to window | paths

The texturizer is under filter | texture | texturizer

that should do.. dunno what else you might need to know.
