okay, this is a really wierd question.
So an image is made up of pixels,a nd for each pixel, the computer has to remember what colour that pixel is.
(let's hypthesize ona basic level, ignoring compression for now)
Is there some way I could see this code, as text?
would it be something like (very basically here):
pixel 1 = ff1324
pixel 2 = ff1443
etc... in which case one wold ba able to look at it, and if there weren't too mnay pixels in the image and one understood hex colours, on could deduce what it is?
(top half's blueish, bottom's greenish, must be sky over grass!)
or would it just be like 1001100100010110100111011
in which case it's pretty useless to a viewer.
I know it's a totally off-the-wall question. If I get any answers, it may lead into an art project in which I am required to use text. Sort of a "picture's worth a thousand words idea", with "words" in a sense like bits, bytes, nibbles and words type of thing.. copmuter style

Interesting idea GP. (Wish I had students who thought that way). Kind of like describing a person by sequencing their genome. Post this at Adobe and see if Chris Cox has an answer.
if there's no real way, I can still make a simple graphic, plot out squares, and write the hex code for the colour of each pixel in the square.
Only problem- this is supposed to be for sculpture, and it's sounding more like a 2d piece.
By Adobe, do you mean Adobe.com forums or something? Under "Photoshop" it's divided into win and mac, obviously this isn't platform-dependent, so I'd rather not limit myself... could it go under SDK? them coders might be more likely to know...
Just out of curiousity, cbadland, where do you teach?
Thanks for the reply,

Well if Chris Cox feels like answering, he certainly would know (he is an Adobe Photoshop engineer who browses both the Mac and PC forums at Adobe.com.) Try posting around, and post back here when you find out. I like the concept.

It's an interesting concept, the data must be there somewhere, so PS can work out whats where, but whether it possible to extract the data is another question.
The really big question is how much of it theres going to be, a 2000x3000 picture is going to have a heck of a lot of number to wade through (about 6.000.000 if my calculator is right) and thats a lot of numbers! could be a good project though. Wayne
